I love everything about this bass, save one thing…..the flat radiused fretboard. That’s just my opinion…………….it’s most likely wrong.

I absolutely love it, no doubt!!

the upper horn attached to the neck is not my style

This Bass is beautiful and I would love to play it. Speaking of the name (No Name) I am in an original band called Kangaroo Jones playing bass and one of the original songs on our album is called No Name. It’s got a great funky bass line to start off the tune. Check it out on our website or iTunes and if I get a chance, I would like to perform that song with your bass. What do you think?

I think it looks cool, but I’d want to play one. I usually prefer a bit of fingerboard radius too (conical, ideally) over a flat board. But that’s just me.

The bridge is gorgeous. I’d like to see more colour variations in the design, for example the fingerboard more different from the body, or the pickup more different.

  12. #12 by elias.trb on August 16, 2009 - 6:19 pm

  13. #13 by Martin Bustos on August 16, 2009 - 6:21 pm

Esta buenisimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! es una obra de arte!!!!!!!!!!!!! este y todos los bajos que construiste antes! grande maestro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. #14 by Gordo on August 16, 2009 - 6:41 pm

about radius…my basses range from 12 to 20 inches, and I can’t really tell the difference while playing. If Jerzy designs such a gorgeous bass with a flat fingerboard, there must be a very good reason. I contend that you’ll get used to it…quickly.

  15. #15 by ronnie dalesio on August 16, 2009 - 6:54 pm

a beautiful bass my preference would be a six string I do like the upper horn attached I feel it must add to a full sound Thanks Jerzy

I love the new design, I love single cut bass guitars. One thing that I would change is this. I noticed the upper horn curves inward then blends into the neck. I think the design would look cleaner if the horn just blended straight into the neck. But that’s just me. A 6 string version of this would be excellent. Defintely would play one! Good luck, I hope the design is successful.

Espero y deseo algun día tener un bajo Jerzy Drozd!!

  22. #22 by Alegría on August 16, 2009 - 11:26 pm

    Hola Jerzy!!

    A seguir sonando fuerte!

  23. #23 by Mike Spike on August 17, 2009 - 12:13 am

very solid and beautiful choice of wood.would like a radiused fretboard though; 8″would be nice.I Like the upper horn but does it have a marked resonance enhancement- the instrument already being made of an exceptionally stout wood.Appears to add balance and beauty, but possibly more weight?Exceptional bridge cosmology. I’d love to wrap my fingers around this bass to play and feel your ideas of creation.A fine work of musical art…

  24. #24 by Maki Sataki on August 17, 2009 - 2:52 am

It is very beautiful and unique style Basses!
The wood contrast realy gives a texture look as a
classic European instrument….!Fine Spanish Guitar construction…!!!

I think it’s a pretty sweet design. Maybe not totally my thing, but still looks like another killer JD!

  26. #26 by eduardo on August 17, 2009 - 5:13 am

  27. #27 by David Galan on August 17, 2009 - 8:08 am

    Sigue asi maestro!!

I believe this bass represents what is lacking in the music industry now. Purity, taking chances, originality, craftsmanship, the strength to be an innovator and stand behind your product. I love the design, the look and i wish i could comment on the feel and sound, but seeing who built it, im more then certain they are top notch as well.

thank you for pushing the boundaries and giving back to the community Jerzy and crew.

    peace and blessings,

    Nicholas “the sage”

  29. #29 by Kevin on August 17, 2009 - 8:08 am

I like the natural look to the design. My only concern would be the low B on a 33″ scale being a bit floppy…

  30. #30 by Timothy on August 17, 2009 - 9:13 am

One of the finest single cut designs I’ve seen. The slight extension and point of the upper horn provide wonderful interest, and visual balance for the offset at the rear end of the body. As with all my favorite design, this bass manages to look modern and old school(classic) at the same time. Like some others, I would prefer radius, but this is just the usual comfort zone, and I have found advantages to flat as well (it sure works for classical guitar!). I love the idea of shorter scale, which accentuates the upper position advantages of having a B string. I think, however, that a stringing option might be helpful, i.e. some way to take up some of the B strings length behind the bridge, in order to provide proper tension. Beautiful bass!

  31. #31 by Kim on August 17, 2009 - 10:05 am

I like the overall design — looks like it will be comfortable while sitting, which is the most important thing for me. I would prefer a shorter headstock — my feeling is that a bass should be as short as possible, and that additional length just for aesthetic purposes is undesirable.

  32. #32 by Marcello on August 17, 2009 - 11:09 am

The design is beautiful but personally I like a bit of roundness and well-contrasted lines.
The combination of woods (neck vs body) makes me a little confusion.
However, I am convinced that it is a pleasure to play

  33. #33 by lawrence on August 17, 2009 - 11:53 am

i don’t know how my fingers will work with the flat fretboard. interesting idea though

  34. #34 by Fabian on August 17, 2009 - 5:01 pm

I love the wood finish and the headstock design, but the body design is not my style.

  35. #35 by Carroll Hale on August 18, 2009 - 5:23 am

That is a very attractive bass.

In the pictures, the bass looks very solid and massive. When you were playing it, you would know without a doubt that you had a bass guitar in your hands. That look is enhanced by the way the upper wing is attached to the neck. There is a visually interesting offset between the upper and lower portions of the body, too, which provides balance to the design.

Being used to a radiused fretboard, I’d imagine that it might take a short while getting used to a flat fretboard, but as another person said, it works well for classical guitar. Everything else about the bass seems that it would make playing it feel totally natural.

I would vote for this bass to be named “Massif”, as a play on words. Obviously, in French, the word means “massive”, alluding to the solid look of the bass. In geologic terms, however, the word “Massif” describes a section of a mountain that is offset relative to its adjacent section, much the same way the upper and lower halves of the body are offset realtive to each other.

  36. #36 by Chris Neal on August 18, 2009 - 6:45 am

I love the 33″ scale, I personally don’t buy into the hype that longer scale produces tighter B’s, or proper tension. Whenever you tune an instrument you are adjusting the tension of the string to resonate at a particular frequency, thus creating “proper tension”………still my opinions and I’m most likely wrong.

I might see your bass on the Antiques roadshow some day. Hey guy maybe you should name it,Woodhead mark II.

  38. #38 by Gerardo Farias on August 18, 2009 - 4:03 pm

  39. #39 by Feral Feline on August 18, 2009 - 10:21 pm

The contest bass is the first ’singlecut’ that I’ve liked.

Perhaps why I like it is that the upper bout angles slightly back; what post #17 dislikes is exactly what I like about the design. It is more fluid and beautiful to the eye than an abrupt 90 degree cut.

As to scale length and B tension, I’m sure the Meistro knows what he’s doing.I’m excited that he’s starting a bass design course. For all you naysayers on 33″ scale, take the course.

  40. #40 by LEXTAYLOR on August 20, 2009 - 8:49 am

I Believe that the real beauty of an object is in its form, and how well the overall design integrates with function, not with superficial “ornamental” features. That being said,I like the contest bass as a whole, but I don’t like the bridge,it seems overly ornamental, asymmetrical and out of place.
